Why have I decided to run for president?
“I’ve decided to run for president upon serious reflection and after a long and thorough talk about real life in Slovenia and about the vision of the future of the state with members of my family, my party and other “significant others” in my life. My decision also stems from my concerns about the state of this country’s political situation. Politics is ever more present in economy and other social spheres and by expanding its influence and by firming its position in these social spheres it generates urelaxed feeling among people. Decisions, important for the lives of the people, are made in narrow, closed circles and often without the necessary life experience because the decision makers simply follow the interests of political, economic and other elites instead of being in the service of the people. It’s time, after twenty years of the same decision makers and the same way of conduct, that is out of touch with real life environment, for somebody new to take the lead, for somebody, who comes from the people and who will be able to speak in favor of the real needs of the common people, also with the help of his own experience.”
I want to emphasize the need for responsible attitude towards environment and for better quality of life for everybody
“With my candidacy, I want to emphasize topics that have been neglected, ignored and not taken into account in Slovenian political space for decades. I want to put to the forefront the problems of the common men and women, who fight for survival in times of brutal capitalism, and who are so often overseen. A big problem is posed by lack of possibilities for youth to set up on their own, while young people feel the lack of perspective. Therefore I strongly believe it is states duty to help them find first employment, affordable roof over their heads and make their decision for parenting easier. We have to strive for improvement of quality of life for everyone and stimulate responsible attitude towards environment, especially by economy. We do need a stable economic growth but not on account of careless abuse of natural resources and quality of life. I’d like to see the emergence of society of equal opportunities, society that will not differentiate children already in kindergartens and schools, society in which the education of youth will not be conditional on their parents’ material status.
I’m not a candidate of the elites, my candidacy presents the possibility of choice and it has uniting role
“People have to be given a choice. The state has to become more people oriented and more inclined to people, who have the knowledge and who live on their wage. I want to stimulate peoples’ thinking and I believe I’ll succeed. All citizens have a right to think and make their own decisions, without being subdued to pressure and manipulative conduct from the government. Citizens have to feel their own worth, because they are the most important link in the chain, called the state. My candidacy will have a uniting role and I strongly believe there will be a lot of individuals, civil initiatives and maybe some political parties, who will support it. We are now divided into those, who helped make Slovenia independent and those who present the forces of continuity, to those who are rich and those who are poor, to partisans and domobrans (homeguard), left and right, but I firmly bet on the future and solidarity.
Vision of the future
I can divide my vision of the future in several parts. Future of the state and life of the people, future of my life and work and future of the world.
I’ve found myself in politics when I was just a student, mostly because people around me thought it would be a good thing for me and for others. After the initial hesitation I’ve realized that despite all torments and pains one can change more and better trough politics. Just being critical from afar does not really help. One must go straight into the arena, into the fight. And all the torments disappear when one realizes, he’s done something good and that others have noticed it. It brings me the most happiness when it is noticed by the people I know and my beloved ones.
One can’t foresee the future, but with active cooperation everybody can co-create society. And that is why I persist in politics. I want a better world, world with more opportunities for people, world, which can cohabitate with the environment and which is well aware we need to leave something also for the succeeding generations. As a tireless fighter for justice, who is bothered the most by wrongs done to his fellow men and women, I can stubbornly stick to my principles. I will persist as long as I know that people support me in my, sometimes Sizif-like, efforts.
My program rests on three main pillars: emancipation of young people, improvement of quality of life and better attitude towards environment. And that is also how I see the future: emancipated young people, who are given a possibility to start and run their own lives and families on their own, better life for all the Slovenians in terms of improvement of possibilities to joggle the personal life and career life as well as improved social security, educational system and health care and last but in no sense the least – protected and preserved environment that we will pass on to the next generations, who will be well-read in importance of helping the nature take care of us.
